Itinerary - Bulgaria Tour - History, Nature and Traditions

 
Day 1: Sofia
Arrival at Sofia airport. Meet and greet by your tour guide. Transfer to your hotel and check-in. Visit of the historical centre: Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the National Theatre, the Archaeological Museum, St.George Church. Afternoon walking tour – Boyana Church, Roman ruins and Medieval settlements. Overnight in Sofia.
 
Day 2: Iskar River Gorge – Lakatnik – Seven Altars Monastery  
Breakfast. After that we’ll head to village of Lakatnik, where we’ll see Lakatnik Cliffs, located on the left slope of the Iskar Gorge. Our next stop is The Seven Altars Monastery, also known as Osenovlashki Monastery, founded in the 11th century and was a cultural and educational center over the centuries. Overnight in Vratsa.
 
Day 3: Vratsa - Saeva Dupka Cave -  Glozhen Monastery - Troyan Monastery
Breakfast. This day we’ll visit the Saeva Dupka Cave, whose name comes from the names of two brothers, Syu and Seyu, who hid in the cave during the time of Ottoman rule. Many of the forms in the cave present recognizable shapes, and tour guides like to point them out and identify them by name.  After this, we’ll head to the highest monastery in the country – the Glozhen monastery, situated in Tetevenska mountain. Finally, we head to Troyan where we will spend the night.
 
Day 4: Troyan - Devetashka Cave - Preobrazhenski Monastery - Veliko Turnovo - Arbanasi
Breakfast. Early in the morning, we take a drive to Devetashka Cave, one of the most beautiful natural phenomena of Bulgaria. Before reaching the Veliko Tarnovo, we’ll stop by the 4th biggest monastery in Bulgaria – Preobrazhenski. After lunch, we continue to Veliko Turnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria, where we’ll have a guided tour including the Tsarevets Fortress and Samovodska street. Overnight in Veliko Turnovo.
 
Day 5: Arbanasi - Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo - Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari - Shumen
Breakfast. After a morning walk in Arbanassi, we continue to the Ivanovo Rock Monastery, which consists of a network of small churches and chapels. After this we head to Archeological Reserve Sborianovo, a unique complex of age-old villages, sanctuaries, and necropolises. Afterwards, we’ll continue to Shumen. Free evening. Overnight in Shumen.
 
Day 6: Shumen - Madara Horseman - Varna - Aladzha Monastery - Balchik
Breakfast. From Shumen, we continue with the Madara National Historical-Archeological Reserve, where we’ll see The Madara Horseman, only stone relief of its kind in Europe. Later, on our way to the Aladzha Monastery, we pass to the Port of Varna. The city is third largest in Bulgaria and was first seaside resort in the country. Following the coastal road up north, we’ll reach the town of Balchik. We’ll visit the Summer Palace of Queen Marie, famous with its Botanical Gardens. Overnight in Balchik.
 
Day 7: Balchik - Nessebar - Zheravna 
Breakfast. This day will start with a visit to the Old Town of Nessebar, with its 40 churches discovered on the territory of the city. After tour of The Old town, we will continue to our next destination - Zheravna. The whole village consists of restored houses, keeping exquisite examples of wood-carved interiors. Overnight in Zheravna.
 
Day 8: Zheravna - Stara Zagora - Kardzhali  
From Zheravna, we head south to the Rhodope Mountains. En route we will stop in Stara Zagora, situated in the Sredna Gora Mountain. Tour of this city with 8000 years’ history and Museum of Religions in the city. For the night, we’ll stay in Kardzhali.
 
Day 9: Kardzhali/Shiroka Laka
Breakfast. In the morning, we’ll head 20 km northeast from Kardzhali to visit Medieval Archaeological Complex Perperikon. Continue to the village of Shiroka Laka, founded in 17 century. The village has preserved its architecture from the Bulgarian Revival Period, its musical culture, beautiful landscapes, and rich history. Overnight in Shiroka Laka.
 
Day 10: Shiroka Laka - Bachkovo Monastery - Plovdiv 
After breakfast, we head to Bachkovo Monastery, the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria. Later, we’ll driving further north, reaching the cultural capital of Bulgaria – Plovdiv, second largest and one of the oldest cities in Europe - the beginning of its history dates back to 4,000 years BC. We’ll have tour of the Old Town. Overnight in Plovdiv.
 
Day 11: Plovdiv - Koprivshtitsa 
Breakfast. From Plovdiv, we continue to the historical town of Koprivshtitsa, the only city-museum in the country and still preserves the atmosphere of the 19th century Revival Period. Overnight in Koprivshtitsa.
 
Day 12: Sofia departure
After breakfast, return back to Sofia. Transfers to Sofia Airport. End of our services.
