Our mineral waters have healed from Roman emperors to today's tourists in Ognyanovo
On the territory of Garmen municipality is the village of Ognyanovo, which is an increasingly desirable destination for health spa and spa tourism, visited by nearly 25,000 tourists a year.
There are 24 thermo-mineral springs on the territory of Ognyanovski Mineralni Bani resort, which have been repeatedly studied and analyzed. They are considered to be an extremely rich hydro-mineral resource due to their huge flow rate, as well as due to the peculiarities of their physico-chemical composition. Most of them are clear, colorless, odorless or with a faint odor of hydrogen sulfide, without any signs of sanitary-chemical contamination, bacteriologically clean. This makes them suitable for both external and drinking spa treatment.
The water in Ognyanovo comes from a drilling spring with a water temperature of 42 ° C - one of the warmest in the resort . Its most characteristic features are:
According to its physico-chemical composition the water is characterized as:
- hyperthermal (with a temperature of 42 ° C);
- slightly mineralized (with a total mineralization of 240 mg / l);
- silicon-fluorine (with content of metasilicic acid - 52.2 mg / l and fluorine - (5.1 mg / l);
- hydrocarbonate-sulphate and sodium, with increased calcium content (2.5 mg / l).
The water has a strongly alkaline reaction (pH-8.9). It contains a small amount of hydrogen sulfide, mainly in the form of hydrosulfides (0.8 mg / l), which gives it a specific, weak and rapidly disappearing odor. Mineral water also contains insignificant amounts of radon (0.7 nC / l).
The high temperature (thermality) of the water makes it suitable for external spa treatment of a number of diseases.
Its assignment to the group of lightly mineralized nitrogen waters with alkaline reaction and with content of fluorine ions makes the water in Ognyanovo suitable not only for external balneotherapy (baths), but also for internal use - so. drinking treatment, especially recommended for gastrointestinal, biliary-hepatic and urological diseases. Low-mineralized mineral water with fluoride content is also used in people with occupational intoxication - to remove from the body of the victims salts of heavy metals; Undoubtedly, its beneficial effect on people whose work environment is at risk of radioactive contamination. In this case, the water helps to remove radionuclides from the body.
The strongly alkaline reaction of water supports the treatment and rehabilitation of people with various diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Mineral water has a high concentration of fluoride ions. This determines the effectiveness of its internal use for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system with thinned bone structure (osteoporosis), helping to strengthen bones. Drinking treatment also contributes to a more successful fight against dental caries.
The mineral water in Ognyanovo is extracted from a natural source and is characterized by absolute purity in sanitary-chemical aspect (lack of nitrates, nitrites and ammonium), as well as in sanitary-hygienic and microbiological aspect (coli-index <100 and microbial count ( total number of bacteria).
It is known that the use of mineral springs as an important drinking, therapeutic and ornamental resource dates back to the ancient Romans. Therefore, it is not surprising that the earliest information about the Ognyanov mineral springs is from the time of the Roman period in the Balkans. The claim that the springs were valued even then as a life-giving natural phenomenon is proved by the numerous remains of Roman facilities - baths and aqueducts found in or near the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Nicopolis ad Nestum (currently - within the municipality of Garmen, only on 3 km from the village of Ognyanovo).
The settlement, an important crossroads for its time, connecting the ancient cities along the Aegean Sea with the valley of the river Hebros (Maritsa), was built in honor of the victory of the Roman emperor Trajan over the Dacians (105-106 AD). It is logical to assume that the decision to build the "city of victory" in the valley of the Mesta River was strongly influenced by the proximity of the thermal mineral springs. Archaeological excavations of a Roman bath (thermae), with a spacious dressing room (apoditerium), a pool of cold water (frigidarium) and a pool of warm water (caldarium) testify that the ancient Romans were the first to discover and realize the healing properties of Ognyanov mineral springs and take advantage of their life-giving and regenerating power.
According to the legends, the Ognyanovo mineral springs are sanctified and blessed by St. Paul himself, and perhaps this is what endows them with timeless miraculous qualities and healing power.
Municipalities, hoteliers, tour agencies and tourism managers from different countries will make Sofia the capital of the Balkans.
